Even in the "ideal" situation (perfect victim, tons of evidence, etc), I'm not entirely convinced that jail time actually prevents future rapes (and it seems pretty clear that the threat of jail time isn't that strong a deterrent to begin with). And the fact that best practices with regards to treatment rape victims are often at odds with due process only serves to complicate matters further.

Honestly, I feel like we, as a culture, might get a lot further in addressing the problem of sexual assault if we switched it over to a restorative justice model.
